My original critical question was based on the inner mental
state of mind of an athlete in general no matter what sport. Bakari Evelyn was
the main focus of my previous project since he is a part of the men’s
basketball team here at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. My critical
question is what makes an athlete so proficient, what is an athlete mental
state of mind when it comes to making decisions within sports and life in
general.
For project
three I would like to address a much different topic that significantly affects
our society today. I would like to discuss the issues of white law enforcement
killing young African American males. My new question will be about the
situation of how are the killings of African American males by white law
enforcement affect modern society in a significant aspect. The reason why I
have decided to talk about this topic is because I personally can relate to
this topic just because I am a young African American male and the same
situation can happen to me at any time. The feeling of being a target for
someone who is suppose to protect me but instead I am nothing but a target as
if I am being hunted. I want the public to understand why the African American
community is very hostile towards law enforcement and understand the reasoning
of why there is no domestic tranquility. The purpose is to show how this
situation has an extreme affect on society in America.
I imagine both African Americans and Caucasians students of
UNL in the crowd listening to the explanation of why this sensitive topic has
so much hostility between Blacks and Whites. We may all have different
religions and experiences but similar thought processes. The one common thing
that brings us together is that we are all living in the same society here in
America. The main reason why we are grouped together in my audience is to
portray the problem and find away to bring domestic tranquility between both
ethnicities.
My essay
will consist of many different newspaper and online articles based on many
different situations in which were young African American males have lost their
live to the hands of Caucasian law enforcement. Right now I will be using a T-shirt as my genre and my modes will be the design, color, caption, texture, and the overall message of what the shirt represents. This will help my be able to grasp the audience's attention and explain the reasoning of my project to the public.
OK, DJ, I'm glad you're talking on this big important question. Your audience of UNL students sounds great and perfectly specific. I think you're going to need to clarify your purpose a little more, though. What exactly do you want your audience to do or think differently as a result of what you're creating? Creating tranquility seems like a pretty tall task (if not an impossible one) for a T-Shirt. So, I think you're going to need a second genre to go with this.
ReplyDeleteA T-shirt also only uses three modes--text, image, and color. So you'll need another text as well. Do you want to communicate with the UNL audience for both texts? Do you want both texts to be doing exactly the same thing? Do you want to do something written/text based? Do you want to do something more artistic or visual? What about something online based? ...These are just some questions to think about as you brainstorm your second genre.
