Introduction

Hello my name is DaiShon Neal. People also call me Dj for short. As a young child I have always been involved in sports but mostly football.  My father played division 1 football and also played in the NFL as a wide receiver. I am inspired and determined to follow his foot steps and pro-long my career in the NFL.  I play football for UNL as a defensive end in the 2015 recruiting class. I love the campus and all of staff and faculty that help and push of forward to become something great in life. I will be majoring in food science and also be doing a minor in business. I would love to be a chef and also own my restaurant in the future. Cooking and eating has always being a big thing to me at a young age. Watching my mother cook all my favorite dishes is what sparked my desire to cook and the Food Network is the main reason why I want to try different foods and love to eat.
I love to work with others and get along with my classmates. Teamwork is the best type of communication within a classroom. You create new friendships with others and learn more about different cultures and ethnicities. Making a class interesting can lead to a successful environment in class as well as domestic tranquility. Interesting topics make learning so much easier for me. I like to learn about cultural situations and African American history. Writing or talking about something I can relate to as a young African American male in today’s society. College is a fresh new start for me as a student and a freshman again. Just from my first day of school in college, I have learned that the most important thing in college is time management. As a student athlete you must be able to balance your time of school work and sports. This is probably the most difficult task that I face as a student athlete. I love the new feeling of freedom to do whatever I please and to live on my own, but quickly realized that I must take care of business in order to enjoy the little things in life. My strategy is to take care of homework and other things involving in school early in the morning and just be able to be stress free later on in the day.

My goal is to finish with a 4.0 GPA this summer. To me my grades come first then sports come next. Taking care of my grades first is very important to me. As long as I take care of my grades first then my sport’s life will not be affected at all by what goes on in the classroom. Coach Riley preaches to us that grades come first then football and I truly believe in that statement. I am glad I made the right decision in coming to UNL to get an education and play football. God will guide on the right path in college and lead me to success in the future. I am religious man and believe in God. I believe that there is a life after death. Well that’s pretty much all there is to me, I am not that interesting but one thing I will say about myself I am good man in heart and in spirit. I am looking forward to grow as a student and as a man and cant wait to see what is awaits for me in my future and become something great in life and help inspire other to achieve goals and become successful.

  1. DJ, I truly enjoyed reading this! It is so nice to know more about you! I'm ecited to hear about your food aspirations--I also love to cook and am obsessed with the Food Network. We'll definatley have to talk about this sometime! I wish, though, you had shared more about yourself as a writer and your writing process.
